"Messy Grace"
Teachers: Doreen Reysen, Rebecca Spangler | 2/12 - 3/11 | Annex E-15
Very few issues in Christianity are as divisive as the acceptance of the LGBT community in the church. As a pastor and as a person with beloved family members living a gay lifestyle, Caleb had to face this issue with courage and grace. Messy Grace shows us that Jesus’ command to “love your neighbor as yourself” doesn’t have an exception clause for a gay “neighbor” — or for that matter, any other “neighbor” we might find it hard to relate to. Jesus was able to love, minister, and connect with people regardless of the lifestyle they were living because of who He is. As Christians, our goal is to become more and more like Jesus every day and our belief system is meant to be a reflection of God’s character, which means that we can love others who don’t share our belief system without sacrificing our belief system. Even when it is messy.

Parenting Class

This semester's parenting Engage class will begin with a six week Gary Thomas study called “Sacred Parenting: How Raising Children Shapes Our Souls." We will follow that up with another “To Be Determined” study as we seek to grow in our lives as parents. One thing all parents recognize fairly early in the process is that parenting is a journey of joy and responsibility and heartbreak and breakthroughs as we seek to raise our children and influence them to follow Jesus. That journey of caring for, rearing, training, and loving our children will profoundly alter us forever. And it is in that process of changing and becoming more like Jesus that we are making a lifelong impact on our children.
