DAY 10: Love from Uniqueness

Ian has a sister who has special needs. Due to an unfortunate accident, she is not able to walk or talk. He is trying to be a good brother and help to take care of her. He wants to help his family in caring for his sister, and he wants to show her love in her special and unique situation. Is there anything from God’s word that can help Ian?

God is love. God has shown His people the greatest application of love by sending His own Son, Jesus Christ, to be our Lord and Savior. For everyone who confesses their faith in Jesus, He has forgiven us from our sins and brought us into the family of God.

Now that we are in the family of God, we are called to show the love that we have received from Jesus to others. How do we do that? The Bible shows us how to love others generally, and it also tells us how to love those with specific needs.

For the poor, we are called to help them financially. We are supposed to keep some of our income in order to help them. Leviticus 19:9 says that farmers must not “reap to the edges of the field, neither shall you gather all the gleanings after the harvest. And you shall not strip your vineyard bare, neither shall you gather the fallen grapes of your vineyard. You shall leave them for the poor and the sojourner, for I am the Lord.”

For those who are not able to hear, God says that we are not to grumble about them outside of their hearing. Rather, we are to show them love and communicate in a manner in which they can understand. We do this as a demonstration of our love to them (Leviticus 19:14).

For those who cannot see, God says that we are not to place any object in their paths that might cause them to stumble or fall (Leviticus 19:14). Rather, true love means that we will remove any obstacle or impediment in front of them so that their path is smooth and without obstructions. True love always looks out for those who have special needs and seeks to help them in every situation.

Let’s pray for Ian and his family. Let’s ask the Lord to give them love and joy as they all serve the sister. Let’s also ask the Lord to bring a miraculous healing to her body. May the Lord richly bless this family in their unique circumstances. God is love, and He is always good.
