DAY 5: Blessing from Curse
Amanda’s mom just found out that she has cancer. She needs medical care right away. Both Amanda and her mom are afraid. Understandably, Amanda does not want her mom to die.
Death is not natural. All sickness and death, including cancer, come from Adam’s sin in the Garden of Eden. Sickness and death are terrible reminders that we live in a fallen and broken world.
But the Lord has not left us to suffer without hope in the face of the covenant curses. He has given us His Son, Jesus Christ, who is the Second Adam. He will fix everything that the first Adam ruined and spoiled. Where Adam brought sickness and death, Jesus brings healing and life.
Someday, Jesus will remove all covenant curses. Revelation 21:4 says that Jesus will “wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away” (Revelation 21:4). This promise is a guarantee that Jesus will remove all covenant curses and exchange them for perfect covenant blessings in heaven. This is a reality that all Christians should look forward to with eager longing.
Jesus is also our Great Physician (Mark 2:17) who can heal people here and now. When He sees those who are hurting and suffering, He is moved with compassion: “And large crowds came to Him, bringing with them those who were lame, crippled, blind, mute, and many others, and they laid them down at His feet; and He healed them” (Matthew 15:30).
Let us pray together for Amanda and her mom. Let us ask the Lord to reveal His glory and power by healing Amanda’s mom from cancer.
