DAY 6: Good from Separation

Rosita, her mother, and her sister are here in the United States, but her dad and brother are still in another country. They are separated for a short time so that the girls might have a better life. Rosita certainly misses her dad and brother. She wishes that they could all be together again. She would love to see her dad and brother be able to move here, find jobs, and live together as a family once again.

When Joseph was seventeen, he did not choose to be separated from his family. While on an errand for his father, his brothers, who were jealous of him, bound him, threw him into a pit, and sold him into slavery. While he was separated from his family, God never once abandoned him. He was with Joseph and blessed him in all of the days of his separation. God was with him in Potiphar’s house and while he was wrongfully imprisoned. For thirteen long years, Joseph suffered unjustly. But God had a grand plan to make good from separation.

When Joseph was thirty years old, God caused Joseph to be brought into Pharaoh’s house and become the vice-regent of Egypt. From this seat as the second in command, Joseph was able to preserve food for people all over the world during a most severe famine. More specifically, Joseph was able to provide for and be a blessing to his reunited family. When Joseph confronted his brothers for their actions, he said to them, “You intended me harm, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives” (Genesis 50:20).

God can bring good from separated families. Let’s pray together and ask the Lord to do great things for Rosita and her family. May the Sovereign God of the universe bring this family together again, and may He bless them in ways that they currently cannot imagine.
